Why Trang College Counseling?

I work with 10 students or fewer each year, so I can provide focused, thoughtful guidance at every stage of the college process. Students work directly with me, not a rotating team, and receive consistent feedback grounded in experience, reflection, and strategy.

My approach is calm, honest, and student-centered, helping families move through the admissions process with clarity, trust, and confidence.

How Colleges Read Applications

As a former admissions counselor who reviewed hundreds of applications each year, I help students understand how applications are actually read. We look at grades, course choices, activities, and responsibilities in context, and talk through how different colleges may interpret them. This helps students make informed decisions and apply with strategy rather than guesswork.

Essay Coaching and Writing Support

My years working with students in the Boston Public Schools as a college counselor shaped how I approach essay coaching. I help students translate lived experiences into clear, thoughtful writing, even when those experiences do not fit typical college essay tropes. The focus is on honesty, specificity, and helping students communicate who they are without overexplaining or overselling.

Admission Strategy and Positioning

As an independent educational consultant working closely with students and families, I help students think strategically about how their applications come together. We focus on building a cohesive profile across coursework, activities, and essays so each application makes sense to an admissions reader, including at highly selective institutions. The emphasis is on alignment and intention, not chasing prestige.

What Parents Say About Working With Trang College Counseling!

I’m so grateful to have met Trang and chosen her as my daughter’s counselor. My daughter was shy and lacking confidence when she first met Trang in her sophomore year. After just a few sessions, she became much more self-assured, especially in expressing herself through her essays.

Trang helped her plan and launch a personal project the summer before her junior year. She also received Trang’s guidance and support for the application to a summer science research program, which added to her strong college profile.

Thanks to Trang’s guidance, my daughter was accepted into several excellent schools, including Northeastern University, Boston University, and the University of Southern California. At Thanksgiving dinner, she even named Trang as the first person she was thankful for.

I truly believe my daughter wouldn’t have come this far without Trang’s support. I highly recommend Trang to all my family and friends!

Kobe Bryant needed the right coach; high school students need a great college counselor.

Coach Trang not only has an in-depth knowledge of the application process but also works well with teenagers. She really spends time with students to figure out the story behind each individual to help to craft their best essays and enhance their profiles.

She prioritizes and guides students with each step during the application process. She develops a detailed plan with spreadsheets for both the parents and children to follow. She gradually becomes like an auntie, a bridge between children and parents, which makes the process less stressful for both.

She also helped my son prepare for interviews with UOP and Harvard. He has learned a lot from her and may apply her approach in future endeavors. He is so grateful for Auntie Trang that she was the first person he called, right after being accepted to his top choice universities!

Coach Trang only takes a few students per year, so please don’t hesitate. I have done many applications myself for post-graduate education, but I could not help my child as well as Coach Trang did. Your child, in his/her uniqueness, will be guided to become a superstar, like Kobe, shining sparklingly through the overfilled pile of college applications.
